Eduardo Guzman spoke at Consejo Empresarial de América Latina (CEAL) – Business Council of Latin America – on March 31, 2016, in Puerto Rico. CEAL is a network of private business leaders in Latin America engaged in trade and cooperative participation. It aims to advance private sector activity and advance socioeconomic development in Latin America.
Eduardo’s presentation, titled, “Using International Arbitration and Investment Treaties to Mitigate Risk,” discussed how to use international arbitration clauses and investment protection treaties to mitigate the commercial and political risks that come with doing business in Latin America. He specifically focused on steps that businesses can take before they make their investments or enter into any agreement in order to benefit from the protections that international arbitration and bilateral investment treaties that protect U.S. investors doing business abroad.
