Julie Allen, Government Relations Director with Drinker Biddle’s Lobbying and Advocacy Team, presented the keynote speech at ConvaTec’s International Live Webcast and Expert Roundtable Discussion on Thursday, September 27, 2012 in Washington, DC.  The event included approximately 4,000 clinicians, including surgeons, nurses and hospital infection control managers, with 25 countries represented. The topic of the event was “Why Risk It? Minimizing the Clinical and Economic Impact of Wound Infection.”

Julie’s presentation, “Healthcare Associated Infections: A Call to Action,” focused on how health policies today are increasingly centered on patient safety and quality with a particular focus on reducing healthcare associated infections, including wound infections. Julie focused primarily on regulatory changes in the US, but also touched on those taking place in Canada and Latin America, and discussed how policymakers and payers seek to improve healthcare outcomes, reduce costs, and increase patient satisfaction.
