New York partner Michael Byrne and London counsel Andrea Best will present a Practising Law Institute briefing titled, “Federal Insurance Office Report: What's the Impact?” on Thursday, March 15. The briefing could be rescheduled, depending on when the FIO report is published.
The insurance industry eagerly awaits a report to Congress from the Federal Insurance Office studying how to modernize and improve the system of insurance regulation in the United States (the FIO Report). The report must specifically examine the extent that Federal regulation of insurance may facilitate regulatory modernization and improvement.
Michael and Andrea, members of the firm's Insurance practice team within the Corporate & Securities Practice Group, will provide a recap of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act provisions that mandate the FIO Report, together with initial insights into the prospects for the various recommended reforms and next steps.
They will also assess the possible roles of State regulators and the NAIC in implementing any reforms recommended in the FIO Report.
