Philadelphia partner David Shechtman will speak at the 1031 Advanced Seminar, sponsored by Wells Fargo and the Center for Professional Seminars, on Thursday, Oct. 27 in San Antonio, Texas.

 

David, chair of the Business Tax Team in the Corporate & Securities Practice Group, will speak on five panels over the course of two days. The first, “Oil & Gas & Minerals (aka Lions & Tigers & Bears): Current Issues,” will cover the issues keep planners and clients up at night as these exchanges become more important and widespread.

 

In “1031 In a Broader Context: Effect of Anti-Abuse Legislation,” David and his co-presenters will discuss the effect of newly enacted preparer penalties, economic substance codification and other anti-abuse efforts on use of Section 1031 as a planning tool for taxpayers and advisors.

 

“Estate Planning Uses of Exchanges” will cover applications of Section 1031 for and in the context of estate planning, and “Contract Documentation Issues in Standard and Not-so-Standard Exchanges” will involve a review of issues created by sample exchange documentation and suggested solutions.       

 

Finally, David will co-present “Ethical Issues for QIs and Advisors in Like-Kind Exchanges,” which qualifies for 1.5 hours Ethics Credits for CPE and CES and 1 hour Ethic Credit for MCLE.
