Washington, D.C., government relations director Julie Scott Allen and government relations manager Erin Will Morton of the Health Government Relations team conducted a webinar on Tuesday, Oct. 11, on a proposed regulation that would allow patients direct access to their clinical laboratory test results.

The rule, issued in September by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, would amend HIPAA and the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendment regulations, allowing patients and/or patient representatives to request their laboratory test results directly from the laboratory.

Julie and Erin presented on the rule's components, how it affects current state law, as well as the challenges and opportunities the rule presents for laboratory owners.
