Managing Government Relations Director Ilisa Halpern Paul delivered the first-annual Robert J. Waters Advocacy Keynote Address at the Advanced Initiatives in Medical Simulation (AIMS) Conference, held in Washington, D.C., on March 28, 29, and 30, 2011. AIMS is a non profit organization dedicated to advocating for healthcare simulation. Healthcare simulation is a type of simulation technology that assists in the education and training of individuals in the health and medical fields, allowing them to learn and practice first in a simulated (e.g., mannequin or computer) scenario rather than learning on a human being.
Ilisa, a member of the Government & Regulatory Affairs Practice Group, spoke on the second day of the event as part of a lecture created by AIMS to honor the memory of Drinker Biddle & Reath Partner Bob Waters, a founder of the organization. The lecture prepared attendees for their meetings with elected officials on Capitol Hill, during which they touted the benefits of health care simulation and asked for congressional support of legislation to promote the practice across the country.
