Gary Rinkerman is a partner in the firm's Washington, D.C., office. He focuses his practice on U.S. and international litigation, transactions and counseling with regard to all forms of intellectual property.

His litigation and dispute resolution experience includes proceedings in district and appellate courts, arbitration and Section 337 investigations at the U.S. International Trade Commission, where he was formerly a Senior Investigative Attorney and lead government litigator in a number of landmark Section 337 proceedings.

In his transaction work, his approach to intellectual property includes a focus on, and integration of, the various form of intellectual property, including trade secrets, know how, patents, copyrights, trademarks, domain names, rights of publicity and other forms of intellectual property protected by contract, tort law, unfair competition law and equity. He has worked on litigation, licensing, joint development, mergers and acquisitions, due diligence, standard operating procedures, clearances and opinions, and best practices for a variety of U.S. and international clients who seek to acquire, enforce or defend against assertions of intellectual property rights. Included in the areas in which he provides legal services are consumer products, retail systems, computer equipment, software, medical equipment, digital media and content, apparel, manufacturing technologies, Internet services and electronic goods.

Gary is an internationally respected practitioner who also regularly lectures on intellectual property principles, transactions, management, licensing and litigation for the Swiss Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich and for the University of Alicante in Alicante, Spain. He is also a featured lecturer on acquisition, management and exploitation of intellectual property assets for the Executive MBA Program at George Mason University School of Management in Northern Virginia.

Gary is a co-founder and member of the editorial board of the international monthly publication Computer Law Reporter. He also serves on the editorial board of Internet Law & Business Reporter and on the Federal Advisory Committee for the Cedar Creek & Belle Grove National Historical Park in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley.
