Grant Nichols is a member of the Insurance Practice Group. He focuses his practice on risk management and commercial litigation.
Environmental Risk Transfer. In his transactional practice, Grant counsels clients through the process of acquiring, remediating and developing environmentally impaired properties, providing guidance in evaluation of environmental site conditions, negotiating liability transfer and guaranteed fixed-price remediation agreements, negotiating environmental insurance coverage at both the underwriting and claims stages, and drafting submissions to environmental regulatory agencies.
Risk Management and Risk Financing. Grant also counsels clients in identifying, quantifying and managing risks faced by businesses. His risk management experience includes drafting insurance policies and/or coverage terms within existing policy forms, drafting insurance-related requirements in commercial contracts, evaluating risk management programs, and managing claims and other non-financial methods of addressing identified risks. Grant has a particular focus on assisting in the establishment of captive insurance companies, self-insurance programs, and participative insurance programs.
Commercial Litigation. In his litigation practice, Grant handles commercial matters, with a particular focus on insurance-related litigation. Recently, he successfully defended a benefits provider in a decade-long series of actions in both state and federal court alleging, among other things, RICO and ERISA violations. The defense resulted in dismissal of the actions in federal district court and affirmation of the dismissal in federal appeals court.
Grant received his bachelor's degree from Rutgers University in 1998 and his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law in 2003. During law school, he trained as a member of the United States National Rowing Team. Prior to attending law school, Grant worked as a property and casualty insurance broker in both London and the United States.
