Intellectual property partner Bob Stoll authored an article for IPWatchdog titled “Let’s Take This Simple First Step Toward Better Quality Patents,” that offers insight on how the United States can do better with regard to the quality of issued patents. 

Stoll explains that if the patent community starts now to advance the patent examination process, it could significantly improve the strength of issued patents. He gives an overview of proposals that have been made for improving quality, discusses the types of requirements adopted by the patent office, and provides suggestions of how to move toward better patent examination.
