Nick Guzman Appointed by Mayor of Chicago to the Illinois Medical District Commission

Government and regulatory affairs partner Nick Guzman has been appointed by Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to the Illinois Medical District (IMD) Commission, which oversees the largest urban medical district in the U.S. and serves the most diverse patient population in the country.

The IMD includes 560 acres of medical research facilities, labs, a biotechnology business incubator, a raw development area, four major hospitals, two medical universities and more than 40 facilities related to health care. As the governing body, the IMD Commission develops and manages medical center districts in Chicago, acquires property, constructs buildings, and sells or leases real estate for purposes related to the practice of medicine.

Of the seven IMD commissioners, four are appointed by the Governor, two by the Chicago Mayor and one by the Cook County Board president.

Guzman counsels clients in all aspects of international trade laws and regulations. He has extensive experience in import, trade compliance and international customs issues, including maquiladora manufacturing operations in Mexico. Guzman also assists clients with import tariff classification, valuation, country of origin determination and marking issues, and eligibility determinations under free trade agreements and duty preference programs.

Guzman earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and his Juris Doctor from Notre Dame Law School.
