Edwin A. Getz is a managing partner of the firm and regional partner in charge of the Chicago office. He is a partner in the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Ed regularly counsels clients in the area of intellectual property and information technology law and has extensive experience representing clients in acquiring, developing and licensing computer systems, software and databases, and in the distribution and sourcing of products and services via the Internet. He has considerable experience in intellectual property and information technology litigation and dispute resolution. Ed also concentrates on negotiating complex technology transfer and joint venture arrangements, technology development and distribution agreements, and consulting agreements.

Ed enjoys representing both new technology companies and well-established companies that are using technology and information in innovative ways. He counsels a diverse array of businesses in the hi-tech, aviation, education, health care, financial services, transportation and consumer products industries.

Ed received his B.A. degree from Carleton College and his M.B.A. from Northwestern University’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management. He received his J.D. with honors from Washington University's School of Law. Ed resides in Evanston, Illinois with his wife Terri and children Rachel, Mara, and Julia.

Born in South Africa, Ed founded the South African-American Economic Council, a nonprofit membership association aimed to facilitate business development, trade, investment and commercial goodwill between South African and Midwestern-based businesses. In his legal practice, Ed has advised and counseled both U.S. companies on entering the South African market and on all aspects of joint venturing in South Africa, and counseled South African companies exporting products to the U.S.
