Business Strategy

The legal industry has changed a great deal in the last decade and so have the key statistics of our firm. We now have well over 1,000 people – attorneys and staff – working out of 10 offices located across the country. As our numbers have grown, our depth and capabilities have grown in kind, giving the firm’s lawyers a large platform to build complementary practices covering a range of legal and industry-based areas.

Although our strategy is growth-oriented, we view the firm’s continued growth as a means, not an end. Fundamentally, we build on our strengths. We seek to become the best law firm in the markets we serve, not the biggest, and growth is just one aspect of this strategy. By recruiting the best talent available, devoting time and resources to their training, and offering highly competitive compensation to associates, our firm’s strategy is forward-looking and deliberate. Our growth is the result of careful planning, focused on specific practice areas – not a random event fueled by short-term needs.

Because of this, our firm is better prepared to weather periodic meltdowns in the larger economy. In the past several years, in the face of a weak U.S. economy some of our competitors have found it necessary to scale back their growth from the 1990’s and early 2000’s, laying off associates, exiting markets, and in some cases, going under. Since 2001, we have opened three new offices, sustained our associate and lateral hiring programs and financial performance.
